Rat Pack - Selt Titled 7" + Ice Cream, Acid, & Cigarettes 7"

In 1984, RAT PACK singer/founder Matt Ratt was covering the vocal duties for R.K.L., while singer Jason Sears was away on "medical leave". During this time R.K.L. was signed on to record for the now infamous"NARDCORE" album on Mystic Records. Just prior to recording, Jason returned from his leave of absense. So left with the dilema of an album to record, and suddenly no band, Matt was told to throw something together quickly and record for the album anyway. So after a few rehearsals with Chris Rest and Alpo D.(borrowed from R.K.L.) Dave Casillas from STALAG 13 and Mike Torres from NARTHEX STRUCTURE, RAT PACK was born! Although originaly only meant to be a recording project for the NARDCORE album, RAT PACK ended up doing three records for Mystic, 1985's self titled 7", 1987's "Ice Cream Acid and Cigarettes" 7" and 1990's self titled full length Lp. Through the years RAT PACK has gone through long periods of hibernation, with many line up changes...people that have played in and recorded with RAT PACK include current and former members of bands such as NOFX, SOCIAL DISTORTION, STALAG 13, THE ADOLESCENTS, D.I., SUGAR CULT, HOLLYWOOD HATE, FOO FIGHTERS,RUBBER NECK, LAG WAGON, R.K.L., NO USE FOR A NAME, and ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMME'S. Once again the sleeping Giant as been awakened, and with the combination of extremely talented fresh blood with an old school sense and style, RAT PACK is close to finishing a full album of brand new music and will be playing out again very soon...consider your self warned.-band's myspace-

The band was formed in 1983 by a group of friends and was originally called S.O.F, Scott Radinsky, Mike Thompson, Gary Galaines and Dennis Jagard, who wanted to start a band and enter a "Battle of the Bands" competition at a local skate rink. After going through several members and name changes, They often played with other "Nardcore" bands from nearby Oxnard, California. All of their records were released by Mystic Records.-wiki-

False Confession was a hardcore punk band in the early 1980s that emerged in the Oxnard, California area. They were one of the founding members of the "Nardcore" punk movement. ILL Repute - Oxnard, Land Of No Toilets

This short and sweet 8-song EP sounds like a slightly faster Circle Jerks, and I like it even more. They play hardcore without the frills but their songs are good enough to stand out from the average thrash band. The majority of this is played at what in 1983 was lightning speed. The breakdown in the second song sounds like a slowed-down surf riff. I don't have a lyric sheet, but the song titles suggest rants against greed, the army, and general societal ~love~.

Scared Straight - Born To Be Wild

Scared Straight was a Nardcore Punk band from Simi Valley, California.

The band was formed in 1983 by a group of friends, Scott Radinsky and Dennis Jagard, who wanted to start a band and enter a "Battle of the Bands" competition at a local skate rink. They often played with other "Nardcore" bands from nearby Oxnard, California. All of their records were released by Mystic Records.

In the early 1990's they changed their name to Ten Foot Pole. One of the reasons for the name change was to move away from the "straight-edge" reputation that followed the band with a name like Scared Straight. Ten Foot Pole has a reputation of being a more aggressive, hardcore punk band that likes to party and have fun.

Don't No - The Real World

As a young, impressionable punk in the early 80’s, I thought that where music came from/certain scenes meant everything when buying unknown records. You could almost be certain that any records on DISCHORD/D.C. or EXCLAIM/Boston were gonna be great, even if you weren’t familar with the band. This was the same case with this record when I bought it.

I didn’t know anything about Oxnard, Ca or “nardcore” for that matter, but I knew that some cool bands like DR. KNOW, AGRESSION, RKL AND STALAG 13 came from that scene. Never hearing of DON’T NO and the fact that it was released on MYSTIC records (cheapest, ~love~ sounding records EVER!) I still took a chance. When I got it home and slapped on the record player, what I heard blew me away. To this day this is still one of my favorite american hardcore ep's.

DON’T NO went on to record an LP that was ok and were on several mystic records comps before calling it quits. This ep is classic American hardcore and definitely deserves more recognition. --7inchPunk

VA - Nardcore Oxnard Hardcore

Showing that central California is more than something you pass through while driving to San Francisco, this collection showcases the classic and often duplicated "Nardcore" Sound. Features tracks from Dr. Know, Ill Repute, Stalag 13, RKL, and others.

Nardcore is a hardcore punk movement that came out of Southern California in the early 1980s, originating in Silverstrand Beach, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Most of the early Nardcore shows originated from Casa Tropical, Port Hueneme Skate Palace and other venues in the Oxnard area.

The name is a reference to the Oxnard, California hardcore punk scene. This suburban community, sixty miles west of Los Angeles, California, was the spawning ground for many hardcore punk bands of the early '80s and became a hotbed for punk and skate bands; collectively, their sound became known as "Nardcore." The Nardcore symbol, a popular tattoo, was created by Ismael Hernandez of Dr. Know on a "PeeChee" folder when he was in school.

Much of the early promotion of Nardcore came from Mystic Records and its founder Doug Moody. Questions have been raised about their financial dealings with the artists.
