Black Fag - Self Titled

A few weeks ago I saw this band play a show in Long Beach, CA and it ended up being one of the most fun and entertaining shows I’ve been to in a very long time. Black Fag are the most “fabulous” Black Flag tribute band around, and in fact since Bl’ast broke up, they are also likely the only Black Flag tribute band around!

Black Fag, as you may have guessed, play renditions of classic Black Flag tunes but instead of just straight up covers they totally gay them up! The singer sounds like an even more flamboyant Fred Schneider of the B-52s and the lyrics will often be altered to make them more homo-friendly. It truly is hysterical! The band really have those songs down to a science and play them tight, and likely could play them better than the old members of Black Flag at this point! Unless you are such a homophobe or truly lack a sense of humor, there is no way you are not going to have fun listening to this album. In fact, this CD is going to be required playing at the next party I have!

The disc features ten songs, all of them are Black Flag tunes from the early hardcore years. Songs like “TV Party” are especially funny during the part where they call out TV shows because off all the truly gay shows they yell out. The packaging is very true to the look of old Black Flag records, but of course with their own twist on them. There are gay parodies for Everything Went Black, Slip it In and Jealous Again inside the booklet and all of them had me laughing out loud.

Any Black Flag fan with a sense of humor, or even just someone who is somewhat familiar with the songs would be wise to pick up this disc, and especially going to see Black Fag play. It’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face and have you laughing out loud, plus ten percent of the proceeds go to various charities so its also for a good cause.-PunkVault-

Gayrilla Biscuits - Hung Queens Can Suck It EP

How about a little L.A. Queercore to spice up your Friday? Gayrilla Biscuits reclaim hardcore punk songs like the infamous Youth of Today classic ‘Flame Still Burns’ and change up the lyrics to be about homosexuality thus the tune becomes ‘Flaming Ass Still Burns’. Check out the Bold’s wonderful ‘Nailed to the X’ rocked Gayrilla style as ‘Nailed in The Ass’. The band has 2 releases, a demo 7″ on Slowgun Records and my personal favorite ‘Hung Queens Can Suck It’ an EP (a play on Judge’s ‘Chung King Can Suck It’) on Buddyhead Records. Band members continue the theme of their song titles with monikers such as Gay Cappo, Mike Fudge, Dan Homo Mahoney, and Zach Gay la Rocha.-jockohomo-

Gayrilla Biscuits- Demo

Depending on who you are you could either think that this is a funny idea, or a complete idiotic one. Being one that admittedly laughs at low-brow humor I think this is hilarious. This band re-records eight 80's hardcore classics like "Flame Still Burns", "Straight Edge", and "True Til Death" and change the lyrics to be about homosexuality. For example, the classic Bold song "Nailed to the X" becomes "Nailed in the Ass", with lines like "I'll shoot gizz in your eye until your blind." If you are into any of those old 80's bands and aren't some up-tight PC hardcore kid, you'll probably find this funny and worth hearing. The Project X parody cover is hilarious. There were only a few hundred of these pressed, I think all of them were on appropriate pink vinyl, so good luck in getting your hands on one of these masterpieces.-district eleven-
