In 1986 while playing a show at the Paramus Roller Rink (with rock gods Trixter) I think it was a Battle-O-The-Bands, well anyway, someone from Torrid Records saw us. Some weeks later we signed a deal. Basically we did this record as we were graduating high school. When looking back at this CD I can only say one thing - everyone's gotta start somewhere.-muckypup.com-

This is a 21 guitar salute to The Press, the very first US Oi! band.
Formed in New York in 1984, the Press didn’t only duplicate the sound of the first wave of English Oi! bands they absolutely captured the spirit. Your Oi!, like our Oi! was working class protest married to angry rock n roll music. Your songs, like our songs, were about boredom, rebellion, and defiance. Working class kids faced the same problems whether they grew up in Canning Town or Queens. You either had no job or a shit job, the dole, low wages or a bag full of swag.
As Andre Schlesinger wrote in It’s Not What I Want: ‘Five days a week, I’m working 9 – 5, it’s never enough to pay the bills but it’s enough to keep me alive.’ The music of the Press was clearly influenced by the British punk and Oi! bands that preceded them; in particular, the Clash, the Gonads, the Upstarts, Cock Sparrer and SLF. Yet they wrote great sing-along rebel anthems of their own, with melody, guts and with plenty to say. Best was Schlesinger’s 21 Guitar Salute which is kept alive today by another great US band The Dropkick Murphys. And while by 1984 the scene in England had become depressingly conservative and copycat, the Press were experimenting with ska (Try) and the more Modish drive of ASAP.
Their emblems were English: the Fred Perry logo, the crossed hammers. But they were bright enough to reject the dumb-ass media image of skinheads as racist boneheads and hitched their banner proudly to SHARP. (With its roots in bluebeat, mod and South London, how could skinhead be anything other than non-racist?) The Press’s stance was truly international. Andre’s stance – even more amazingly – was international socialist: “Don't wait for tomorrow, revolution now!” he wrote, echoing England’s Redskins. And buddy, if you don’t like that then you can “shut your fucking mouth.” It’s Not What I Want started out not as a song but as a picket sign.
Other US Oi! and Oi!-influenced bands were to go on and make a bigger splash, but never forget The Press. They deserve to be recognized. The Press were the first; they got it, they took it, they made it their own. The kids were all right.-Garry Bushell, Godfather of Oi!-

Introducing Save Ferris is the debut EP by Save Ferris. With the exception of "For You" and "You and Me" all tracks were re-recorded for the band's first full-length album, It Means Everything.-wikipedia.org-

Like its compatriots Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris gets classified as a ska band, but a deeper delving into both bands' musical hearts reveals that they are actually pop bands who play ska. Both bands use the horns and reggae beats to sculpt melodic concoctions that sneak their way into a listener's heart and feet.
On MODIFIED, the California collective's follow-up to the infectious 1996 debut IT MEANS EVERYTHING, the modifications include a slight move even further away from traditional ska. The horns are there and a skankin' beat occasionally stirs up trouble, particularly on "I'm Not Crying for You," but more than anything, MODIFIED is a pop album, exquisitely produced, simultaneously intricate and devourably simple. Quick-paced anthemic ditties like "Turn It Up" and the bouncy "Your Friend" rule the first half of the album and spread warmth and fuzziness. The second half tends to a more reflective mood with gems such as the symphonic "One More Try" and the tender "Let Me In." Hang on after the last track closes for the hidden title track, a brilliant piece of Cheap Trick-meets-Bad Religion power-pop.-cduniverse.com-

Principally recorded at NRG and The Hook, Hollywood, California; Front Page Studios, Burbank, California; Sonica, London, England from April through June 1997.
With the arrival of Save Ferris, the mid-'90s Cali-based ska-punk meltdown officially gets upgraded to an invasion. Full of candy-glossed, R&B-ish horns playing many BPM above the speed limit, four-on-the-floor punk guitars, and downbeat tempo breaks, IT MEANS EVERYTHING, the Orange County septet's full-length debut, is a study in the alterna-ska sound circa No Doubt and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Surprisingly, when Ferris stretch out of the form's musical and lyrical touchstones, they evade the skater's park audience in favor of a retro-lounge style that retains the island lilt. Think Squirrel Nut Zippers go to the Carribean.
"Superspy" is full of dark swing-abilly overtones. On "Goodbye," the band approximate the sound of smoky-bar combo, as Monique Powell applies her finest Billie Holiday imitation. "Lies" is a Frankenstein of disparate traditions as a straight-ahead reggae groove is mixed with 50's pop strings and vocals. Still, the cover of Dexy's Midnight Runners' "Come On Eileen" best illustrates Save Ferris' intentions; punked-up pop, with horns as melodic gifts and riddims as exotic breakthroughs.-cduniverse.com-

Beyond the stereotype of "beatdowns", the "tough guy" exterior, the simplistic "chugga chugga" riffage, and so much more than just a mosh pit is one of the hardest working bands in hardcore: Death Before Dishonor. In the four years since they originally joined the Bridge Nine roster, Death Before Dishonor has released two full-length albums, two 7"'s, and played over 1,000 shows around the globe. Now, Death Before Dishonor is gearing up to release their third and most accomplished studio album to date - Better Ways to Die. This album not only solidifies Death Before Dishonor's commitment to what they do as a band, but it also displays their unflinching ability and desire to establish themselves outside of clich閟 and the pre-defined constructs of what it is to be "hardcore."
With their 2007 release of Count Me In, Death Before Dishonor caught people off guard as the album debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers Charts, Independent Albums and Top New Artist charts and stayed there for over four weeks. Regional and National press took notice, as did radio and video outlets. Death Before Dishonor embarked on a world tour to promote Count Me In, supporting cornerstones of the hardcore world like Agnostic Front, Madball, Sick Of It All, and Hatebreed, as well as modern powerhouses Have Heart and Terror. DBD hit every nook and cranny around the world - Europe, Australia, Japan, Great Britain, Mexico, Canada and the entire continental US - Count Me In was officially a success.
Fast forward to 2009 and Death Before Dishonor returned to Boston to write and record what would become Better Ways To Die - which did not come without obstacles. Member changes ensued, a new drummer was added into the fold, and the band found themselves in a spot of free agency as their contract had expired with their home since 2005 - Bridge Nine Records. Vocalist Bryan Harris stated, "It was a weird position to be in since we've pretty much been with Bridge Nine since the beginning, but staying with the label was an easy decision for us. They've always cared about our band and since Count Me In came out, they've grown to become that 'next level' label that our band needed to move forward."
And move forward they did, as Better Ways To Die showcases Death Before Dishonor reaching outside of the safe hardcore formulas both in songs and content while still retaining their roots in the South Boston upbringing. Produced by Jim Siegel, Better Ways To Die lies somewhere between the harder punk edge of Rancid, the working class anthems of fellow Bostonians Dropkick Murphys, the hardcore attack of Hatebreed and the precision and riffage of Slayer - this is the sound of a true Boston Hardcore band.
Lyrically, Better Ways To Die is an undeniable view into the world that is Death Before Dishonor; the blue collar, overlooked, undervalued segments of society and how we all survive in the face of adversity. However, this album pushes beyond just anger and rage as songs like "Remember" and "Our Glory Days" remind us of the hope that can be found in punk and hardcore music. Further diversifying the album is "Boys In Blue", which takes the punk mentality of "fuck the police" and turns it on the wrongful arrest and abuse of Harris' brother. The title track is a unique view on war and its effects in a poorer neighborhood and is perhaps one of the best Death Before Dishonor songs to date.
Better Ways To Die is the sound of defiance when all one is surrounded with is defeat and marginalization. "If it weren't for this band, I would be sitting in Massachusetts. In the last two years I've been to Australia, Russia, Ukraine, Japan, all across Europe, the US and Canada and I've seen all four oceans. We have no reason to stop now - people are now starting to pay attention", said Harris. So pay attention: Better Ways To Die is the new definition of Boston Hardcore.

After enduring a very demanding 2008 with personal loss and half of their line-up changed, the crawl & reign ep proved The Setup was more alive than ever. This release however was only a glimpse of what is coming. With their upcoming full length album 'Torchbearer' The Setup prove that they're still a force to be reckoned with. This record is by far the heaviest album they ever wrote and above all, it captures their trademark live sound. 33 minutes of explosive guitar riffing, hard hitting drums, and vicious vocals is Torchbearer in a nutshell. Songs like Hostile Eyes , Drown and Sink and "Another Heresy" are the living proof The Setup raised the bar once again. Recorded by Jacob Olsen (Born From Pain, Hatesphere, Moonspell Gorefest) This collaboration resulted in 12 bone crushing songs that will grab you by the throat and leave you breathless. It s no secret, The Setup faced some dark times which eventually led to an album that embodied this struggle, so no one will be surprised Torchbearer is an album full of anger, frustration and hate but even more it s also an album of hope, because in a world where no one seems to care and many of us feel alone, the torchbearer will rise to show us there is more out there than what we are told.

Left Alone is a punk rock/Street Punk band from Wilmington, California. They were formed in May 1996 by lead vocalist/guitarist Elvis Cortez. Cortez formed his own label, Smelvis Records, to release Left Alone s records, and has since expanded the label to include numerous other underground bands Cortez was also the owner of the PCH Club in Wilmington, which is now defunct. Left Alone s music has ska influences, and the band is notable for adhering to a do it yourself ethic, by avoiding major labels, booking their own tours, and making their own merchandise
After releasing numerous demos, splits, and EPs, Left Alone released their first full-length, Streets of Wilmington, in 2002. A year later, the band compiled their earlier, out-of-print recordings on the anthology Left Alone: 1996-2000. In 2003, Cortez went on the Warped Tour as a roadie. After Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman heard Left Alone s music, he chose the band to be the Warped Tour BBQ band for the 2004 tour. The band were invited back to be the BBQ band for the 2005 tour. While on the Warped Tour, Tim Armstrong of Rancid heard Left Alone s 2004 album, Lonely Starts & Broken Hearts Armstrong signed the band to his label, Hellcat Records, and re-released Lonely Starts & Broken Hearts. The band released their third full-length album, Dead American Radio, on August 8, 2006, which features guest appearances from Tim Armstrong and Patricia Day of the Horrorpops.

Keep On Fighting Vega was she oldskul hardcore group from Sevastopol, Crimea, Ukraine.
"The idea of establishing the group was back in 2004/05. But once it was not serious. In early 2006, I, with his friend Gleb, met in one of the city internet cafe with a character named Kostya, who, in consequence, became our guitarist. The idea to create a team was born on the same evening, when we learned that love the same hardcore music as well as a streyt edzherami. A little later, the hopeless group Aggressive Lesbians, Pasha was pull out ... Attempts have been rehearsing in the summer of'05, but the first serious rehearsal was held in March of'06 years in the composition: Jura - vocals, Costea - guitar, Pasha - bass and Gleb - drums. Being in the city only hc team, we do not lose heart and continued to rehearse. 7 November, we organized the first show in Sevastopol hc (c Cut'n'Run). " (more life message zine, december 2006)
