The Damned is a Punk group formed in London in 1976.
The music from its beginnings (more or less between 1976 and 1980) and especially the style of battery Rat Scabies were a big influence in the creation of hardcore punk in the United States. The Damned have been regarded as one of the founders of gothic rock.
The group has been separated and reunited many times and only vocalist Dave Vania has remained constant in each alignment. However, alignments have always included either the guitarist Captain Sensible or the drummer Rat Scabies.
