Ripchord - The Damage Is Done

This is the shit, though it is nothing more than just a raw punky thrash attack. RIPCORD definded the english hardcore between 1984 and 1988. Along with HERESY, the STUPIDS, DOOM and EXTREME NOISE TERROR, they were one of the best bands that England had to offer at that time when Cal had gotten his balls sewed on again and the technicolor punks from Kings Road became extinct. RIPCORD, though from Weston-Super-Mare would have loved being a D.C. (TEEN IDOLS/G.I.) or Boston band (S.S.D./D.Y.S.), but they were one of these bands that could easily outrival their paragons.

In March `86 "Ripcord" played their first "big" show outside their immediate area, Portsmouth. With VARUKERS, DEPRAVED, AD NAUSEUM and EXTREME NOISE TERROR. The gig went well with RIPCORD ending up playing last! immediately after ENT. In May `86 the band played their home town of Weston-Super-Mare for the first time, the crowd stood there open mouthed as they ripped through a set of speeded up brutal thrash punk. the likes of which the locals had never heard then or since. What you have to remember is the majority of the youth culture in Weston (and England) in the mid `80s revolved around indie. ~love~ like the SMITHS or Goth ~love~ like SISTERS/NEPHILM or skins into Violence and BAD MANNERS! After this the band recorded their 1st EP a nine song flexi 7" called "The Damage is Done". The money was put up by Baz as he was working, the rest of the band was on the dole or had poorly paid jobs. John paid for the covers and in late `86 the flexi was released - the 1st raging records product (around 2,500 pressed).--CrimeSceneRecords
